I owned a set of the RP-HJE200′s and loved them, which is why I bought these. My only complaint was that the plug was kind of flimsy and stopped sending sound to the right earbud after 4 months of heavy use. Thats longer than most headphones last me, the only ones beating that were the JVCs at 7 months. That problem seems to have been addressed, as the new plug looks to be very sturdy. I am mildly impressed with the sound. AS far as I can remember the 200′s sounded better, which as odd since they’re the old model of these. The sound is very detailed for earbuds, these are the most crisp sounding. When I first wrote my review I gave it 5 stars because these sounded AMAZING with my CD Walkman (which I was using because my iPod was broken). Now that i’m using my iPod, these are nothing special. They have a lot less bass than the some of the others I’ve used. It’s amazing how much better they sounded on my walkman. Or even if I plug them into my computer. Unless you have a high-quality audio source, there are better. My favorites for iPod use are the JVC Marshmallows. While they have a less-detailed sound, they have much more bass and provide a warmer, richer, more enjoyable listening experience from an iPod. The Panasonic RP-HJE300′s are a good compromise. They have deep bass, but the fidelity and precision of these. If you have a player with a manually adjustable equalizer, I would recommend these, but the 300′s are a step up. iPods sadly don’t, so I have to settle with one of the presets. “small speakers” has always been the best. I’ve also owned the Koss Sparkplugs, which had the best bass, but the treble was piercing and the mids were brassy. The Sony’s had pretty good sound, but were plagued with durability issues. AFter 3 sets and an average life of 1 month I moved on. My favorites for use with my iPod are the JVC Marshmallows. On the Small Speakers setting, I have yet to beat them with much more expensive earbuds. It’s only made better by their low price, and they are the coolest earbuds in my opinion because, the colored cord lets you show them off when you have them on, colored earbuds with white wires are nothing special when you’re hair hides them.
In short: if you’re using these with an iPod, get the JVC Marshmallows or step up to the RP-HJE300s
If youre using them with a computer/sansa/walkman: these are good, but the 300′s are even better.
