Shure SE530 Unboxing

By Grissom

Hey all, I know this video is lame in terms of content but I was really excited to get these earphones out of the box. I believe it’s the first unboxing video of these earphones, the SE530 by Shure, so enjoy the video! With regards to sound quality, it’s really needs no introduction. The sound you hear is extremely detailed and expansive. Don’t expect booming bass like in a club because these earphones produce sound as if sitting in a recording studio. If you think you want to get these, I suggest waiting for the SE535s coming out in mid-2010. These retail at MSRP $499 at the moment but you can find it at much lower prices.

@Altair8801 Hey there, personally, I have not heard the AKG headphones so I can’t judge for myself. If you’re talking about the K701, you’ll definitely be comparing two different things. The Shure earphones will give you exceptional detail where you can hear every single plucking of a guitar for example while the more obvious difference in the K701 will be louder bass. One thing is that the headphone can never compete in terms of clarity and precision. (BA vs Dynamic Drivers.)

Are these the phones that cost about 3000 SEK or about 300 EUR? Are these supposed to be better than my AKG studio headphones? I find that hard to believe. Of course, Shure is renown brand in the audio business, they make some of the bes studio microphones on the market. Along with AKG, they are among top five. I have used Shure microphones in the past until I switched to AKG. But phones, headphones, earphones?… I don’t know. I am not convinced that these phones are worth 300 EUR.

@blitzkreig000 I’d love to but if I were to spend a grand on those headphones I’d have to update every else, new amp, soundcard etc, I do like the look of the Denon AH-D7000 though very plush.

@sfsix There is actually. I replaced these earphones free of charge a month after I bought them because I tore the sleeves. I tried using a plier to remove the plastic and guess what, I ended up denting the nozzle. They replaced it for me nonetheless. I noticed a difference in sound from the pair I returned and the replacement pair. I suppose there is some break in period. In fact, some claim it to be about 200hrs. Not that sure.

just got these… they sound wonderful. they have a very warm sound to them. i’ve owned e3c’s in the past and these are a definitely an upgrade from them (especially in the bass areas.) i dont know if it’s worth the msrp price though. also, i’m not sure if there is a “break-in period” for these, but if there is and they sound better over time, then it might be worth it. does anyone else who owns these know if there is a break-in period?

@UnufcE Buyers remorse? In terms of sound the reason I bought these is because it sounds darn close to the B&W Zeppelin iPod Dock. This means that it has clarity and definition that is not muffled and muddied by excessive bass say from speakers from Bose or their headphones both of which I have. The bass here won’t be obvious (to some it may sound lacking) but actually the bass here is more balanced and integrated into the music hence the term as if sitting in a recording studio.

Funny when he can’t get the box out and whispers ‘son of a bitch’ under his breath, I have a pair of these and they are the best phones I’ve ever heard. As close to perfect as I’ll ever be able to afford.

@sniperwill0 They are really industrial quality. You have to abuse them to spoil it. But one thing is that the sleeves are very hard to remove, I tore all my sleeves when I wanted to wash them so I resorted to removing them when it’s totally worn out. 2 year warranty with got customer service, I think there’s little to worry about.

@intemister No problem. I know a friend who owns an audio shop who was willing to sell me near cost price. Honestly, I wouldn’t pay $500 for these because it’s just way too expensive. $500 more and I can buy myself customs from UE or JH Audio.

@intemister In my opinion, they’re not worth the RETAIL price because it is marked up by a big margin. I got them at a much cheaper price which is very close to cost price for dealers where I feel it’s reasonable. I’m very satisfied with it at the price I bought which is nearly $200 lower. You have to know what kind of sound you’re looking for because it boils down to taste and preferences. You may or may not like them.

@shazzbot007 That is true and I like those ear tips you’re using yourself. I would want to wear the L foams but I want it to be in a size where I can also share with friends so I sticked to the M foams.

@arandompotato32 And I got them for slightly more than US$300 btw. Got a real bargain for these. I feel like they’re only worth it at this price. Any more and I feel like I must be really crazy to spend so much on earphones.

Got a pair of these, make sure you experiment with different earbud sizes, effects the sound and quality. I mainly use the medium size foam ones.
